Greenhouse Cafe Launch!!!!! On Saturday 21st November we
opened up the centre at 8am and switched the oven on!
The young people turned up looking very
smart in the ‘uniform’ they had chosen for waiting on the tables (black
tousers,smart tops and black aprons).
Then we put the soup on and stated making
scones.
We were all quite excited as the clock
raced towards our opening time of ten o’ clock!
We had publicised the café opening with
flyers (including the menu) and a big notice board outside the centre…but would
any customers turn up??!
At ten o’ clock we cut a ribbon and took a
couple of photographs of us all waving cooking utensils in the air. Ten o’
clock came and went…no customers…aarghhh!
Then a young boy called Jack who lives
nearby asked what was happening, he came in and ordered a bacon roll.
Slowly, one by one the word seemed to get round and by 11 o’ clock the café was
busy and people were ordering all sorts of food off the menu. The cooks and the
waitresses were all very busy and it was kind of like the rehearsals we had
done only this time it was for real.
During a quietish moment Brian had phoned a
couple of local radio stations, Radio Forth
and Leith FM. Radio Forth put out an advert about our café and Leith FM
decided they wanted to interview a couple of the young people involved.
Shelleyanne and Kris went on the phone and answered lots of questions about the
café.
The day went really well, we were busy with
the food orders and all the kids that were playing in the soft play room while
their mums were having coffee.
We spent £100 on buying things in for the
café, we took in around £70 so we’ve made a bit of a loss, but it’s only our
first week.
We’re open again this Saturday, we’ve
changed the menu and the prices a bit and we’ve put a big sign up in the
window….
Wish us luck!!
